Restore & Seeding overview
Restore & Seeding writes data from your snapshots back into Salesforce. The same engine covers two jobs:
Restoring data
A restore has four stages: pick a snapshot → build the scope → review the pre-flight → launch and monitor. Nothing writes to Salesforce until you click Start restore on the pre-flight page.
Building a scope
The scope builder (Data Studio) is the visual canvas where you define exactly which objects and records an operation touches. You'll meet the same builder in four places — Restore, Backup, Archive, and Purge — so everything on this page applies across the platform.
Data mapping and anonymization
Restores can transform values as records load into the target org — masking sensitive data, rewriting org-specific values, or clearing fields. Nothing in your snapshot is ever modified; the rules apply only to what lands in the target.
Sandbox seeding
Sandbox seeding fills a sandbox with a realistic, right-sized subset of production data — so your team tests against data that behaves like the real thing, without copying sensitive values into a less-protected environment.
