Managing backups

Day-to-day operations on an existing backup, all from the backup's page.

Run a backup on demand​

The Run Backup button starts a run immediately, without touching the schedule:

  • Run Full backup — captures a complete snapshot and starts a fresh baseline; future incremental runs build on it. Do this right before a risky deployment or data load.
  • Run incremental Backup (incremental backups only) — captures just the records changed since the last snapshot. Faster and smaller.

Each choice asks for confirmation and explains exactly what it will do. Only one run per backup can be in flight at a time.

Pause and resume​

Disable stops a recurring backup from running on its schedule — existing runs and snapshots are kept, and Enable resumes it with one click. Use this during data migrations or org maintenance when a scheduled run would capture a half-finished state.

Edit a backup​

Edit lets you change the name, the schedule, and the notification settings at any time. The org, backup type, storage destination, and retention are fixed after creation — create a new backup if you need different ones. Backups built with Data Studio reopen in the builder instead, so you can also adjust their scope.

Retention​

Each backup keeps a configured number of snapshots; older ones age out automatically. For Data Studio backups you set Snapshots to keep at creation.

Deleting a backup​
